Minister for Health Simon Harris formally “Turns the Sod” on Peamount Healthcares New 100 Bed Development in Newcastle, Co Dublin.

Minister for Health Simon Harris formally “Turned the Sod” on Peamount Healthcares New 100 Bed Development in Newcastle, Co Dublin. This €24 million development was funded by the sale of lands belonging to Peamount Healthcare and a significant capital investment from the Health Service Executive.   Peamount Healthcare is an independent voluntary organisation that operates in partnership with the HSE to provide a range of health and social care services for the Dublin Mid Leinster Region. Peamount Healthcare currently operates 219 beds between campus and community services with a headcount of 500 employees.   Minister for Health Simon Harris stated  that when he asked a resident what it  was like to live in Peamount he said “heaven on earth” , Minister Harris noted that he “extraordinary proud of the people who work in our health service ” he thanked Suzanne Corcoran , Peamount HealthCare’s Management Team, the Board Chaired by John Delaney  and all the staff working in Peamount for providing excellent care to people with complex needs.   Peamount Healthcare has a long history dating back to 1912 when the facility opened as a Tuberculosis Sanatorium.  It quickly became the largest such unit in Ireland and developed as a centre of excellence delivering high quality care to patients and service users and this ethos continues. In the 1960’s Peamount changed service direction and opened residential services for Intellectual Disability.  Since that time services have expanded and developed and now include; Rehabilitation Care for Respiratory and Age Related Conditions Residential Services for Long Stay Neurological Disability Residential Services for Long Stay Age Related Conditions Residential Services for Intellectual Disability Community Outpatient Services     Minister Harris noted that in the past Peamount “made an incredible contribution to tackling Tuberculosis,  what I would now say the challenge falls to Peamount and to the next generation of leaders , to tackle one of the great challenges of today that our Health Service faces and that is a demographic challenge”,  “our population is growing and our population is aging and will have healthcare needs”. “ What you are doing here today is already beginning to fulfil that challenge providing residential care, providing short stay care, looking after people with complex needs and what you are doing today is adding more capacity to that.  In building a new unit and turning the sod on that today we will see 100 beds, 50 will enable residents to have better facilities because we know parts of Peamount are very old and 50 beds will provide us with more Neuro Rehabilitation capacity, something we badly need in this county. I am really excited about the contribution that this development is going to make, it’s going to add additional beds to our Health Service”.   Suzanne Corcoran, Chief Executive Officer, Peamount Healthcare announced that “Peamont Healthcare’s present strategy is to expand rehabilitation services in conjunction with the National Neuro Rehabilitation Strategy. The new building will provide 50 replacement Older Persons residential beds in addition to a new 50 bed unit.  This development will be a support to the acute hospital system for the early transfer of patients for follow on care.   This event marks a bright future for Peamount, its service users and staff, as we announce our development and reposition our services for the future. Peamount Healthcare is delighted to announce joint partnership with the HSE in progressing a new 100 Bed Unit at its Newcastle Site in West Dublin. This development will provide 50 Replacement Older Persons Residental Beds in addition to a new 50 Bed Unit to expand Rehabilitation Services. Healthcare Charter June 2017 – Safe & Effective Services Awareness Month at Peamount

Peamount commences roll out Leadership Training for all department heads

We are investing in our team. Our first group of managers have completed Leadership Training with Pat Reda, Executive Trainer/Coach. 10 managers completed a 3 day course in the education centre at Peamount.  Further group training sessions are planned for later in the year. Read more →

Peamount is represented at the International Conference for Integrated Care

PREP – Peamount Respiratory Empowerment programme -  is a multidisciplinary lifestyle empowerment programme that promotes healthy eating and physical activity specific to people with respiratory conditions.  Available to respiratory rehab inpatients referred for weight management with a BMI of over 30kg/m2.   Here’s what some of the participants of PREP have to say about the programme:   “Thanks to this programme, we can feel we still matter, and that Peamount has a great interest in its patients’ overall health” “the dietitian’s nutrition class has changed my life and my thinking about food and exercise” “tried diets before and it never worked as well as this” “As for the physio, I found it fantastic. Charity event in aid of The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland, Thursday 4th May, 2017

Peamount Healthcare announces new CEO and development plans for the campus

Suzanne Corcoran has commenced as Chief Executive in Peamount Healthcare replacing Robin Mullan who retired early in 2016. Former Operations Manager for the Surgical, Anaesthetia and Critical Care Directorate at St. James’s Hospital, Suzanne brings a wealth of public and private sector healthcare experience to Peamount having held various senior positions in St. James’s Hospital, Irish Blood Transfusion Board and Mount Carmel Private Hospital over the past 7 years. Peamount Healthcare are currently developing a 5 year Strategy the main focus of which is to develop rehabilitation services taking account of the current demand on acute and non-acute services and the role the hospital can play in alleviating pressure from the health system in years to come. Ms. Corcoran joins the organisation at an exciting time as Peamount embarks upon the first phase of this development. Construction will commence later this year on a new 100 bed unit which will allow for an upgrade of services and the first expansion of the rehabilitation unit. Light up Peamount 2014

For the second year running in association with Newcastle Community Group, Peamount has been illuminated with festive Christmas lights. It strives to be a celebration for Services Users, Visitors and Staff, and gives us an opportunity to join with the local community to mark the start of the festive season. It was great to see so many people get into the spirit of Christmas and raise their voices in song….. Unfortunately the weather was not so kind to us on the day! The Christmas Lights were officially turned on by Mr Eddie Clouder, a service user from Pine Lodge. Also in attendance for the occasion was Cllr Francis Timmons who, as an Independent Councillor and former staff member represents the Clondalkin and Newcastle areas. His thoughts for the day were on the importance of Social Inclusion in our daily lives and how inclusion treasures diversity and builds communities. The choir who had been rehearsing for a number of weeks prior to the event added enormously to the atmosphere on the evening. They were ably assisted by service users and staff who also participated in the event. A big thank you to the choir and everyone who brought cakes, pies, goodies and festive cheer to the evening! Santa came to Peamount !

Santa came to Peamount on the 7th of December in a blaze of colour heralded by the brilliant Bag Piper David Markey from county Monaghan.  Rudolph led the sleight with his merry reindeers and Magical Elf’s in tow. Santa greeted the large crowd waiting for him and saw each child and adult in his magical Grotto which was kindly supplied by Smurfit Kappa.  A wonderful day was had by all. Hot chocolate and mince pies were enjoyed by everyone who came to visit. Creative Crafts and  Arts were on display and for sale . Pfizer Volunteers add a splash of Colour
