Older Persons Residential

Peamount Healthcare provides a welcoming, caring and innovative older persons residential service that comprises of 50 long term residential beds, shared between two twenty five bedded units- Mountain View and Meadow View. Older persons residential services are provided to men and women over 65 years. Our residential units opened in the purpose-built care facility, the Aberdeen Centre, in March 2020 based on the scenic grounds of Peamount Healthcare. The beautiful, modern layout and thoughtfully themed corridors creates a homely ambience that provides meaningful opportunities for reminiscence, conversation, and wayfinding. Our residents take pride in their personalised bedrooms that are fully supported with tracking hoists, en-suite bathrooms, electric beds and other facilities ensuring quality of care and comfort. A policy of open visiting is offered at Peamount Healthcare. Each unit has a Resident’s Committee, a forum to give residents (and family members), an opportunity to participate in decisions that affect them.
...The unit is HIQA registered and led by Consultant Geriatricians in terms of clinical governance. The older persons units are further supported 24/7 by an onsite medical team, and a CNM3 nurse manager as the designated PIC. The designated person in charge, Advanced Nurse Practitioner & Clinical Nurse Specialist’s in Gerontology meet the particular needs and specialised care supports of our residents. Resident’s avail of a range of clinical, social and recreational services to help them live as independently as possibe.
Referrals are received through the fair deal application process from the acute hospital sector, mainly Tallaght University Hospital, St James’s Hospital and from the community through General Practitioners, Public Health Nurses, and Social Workers. Residents are supported via a multidisciplinary care approach involving team of medical practitioners, nurses and health care assistants supported by dietician, physiotherapist, speech and language therapist, occupational therapist, social worker, pharmacist, social care/ recreation therapists and chiropodist. The service also has access to a Consultant in Psychiatry of Later Life.

Person Centred Care

Nursing care is led by our Clinical Nurse Managers at many levels. Staff nurses, care staff and activity staff all play vital roles in the delivery of patient centred care. Through a collaborative care approach, the multidisciplinary team strive to maintain resident’s dignity, respect, and the highest standard of individualised holistic care possible. The quality of this care is assured by continuous quality improvement. Various stakeholders including practice development and the quality continuous improvement manager, align to support the delivery of this care. Our service is benchmarked in line with national standards, set against the Health Information Quality Authority (HIQA), and the National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland. Reinforcement for a person-centred approach, is supported by SAGE, in providing the vital element of external advocacy.

The “DISH project” was enrolled in 2022, which enables our residents to choose their menus electronically from a tablet with picture menus. DISH has given the residents more control over their diet including temperature of food, adding personalised recipes to menus and times the meals are served. Visitors allowed to dine with relatives in residents own room or in the Paddocks cafe, shared lounge or in the beautiful courtyard and gardens.

Activities and Leisure Time

The service has a safe and easily accessible indoor and outside garden areas for residents use with easy access for wheelchairs and walking frames. Residents have in house library facilities, and dedicated daily access to Health and Wellness Centre for art, pottery, horticulture, pet therapy, reminiscence, sensory therapy, internet cafe, music, dance and much more. Personalised excursions/ trips are organised for residents by activity co-ordinators and regular exercise groups have been developed for residents as part of the “living well” physiotherapy programme. Onsite hair salon is located in the Wellness centre and Hairdresser or Barber visits at least monthly.

The service facilitates on site Pharmacy, Radiology, Rehabilitation, Gym and access to Peamount transport for service users.
Dental/Optician and other services provided by GMS are privately supported by the service.
Covid and Flu vaccinations are available on site for residents and staff.
