Rehabilitation Services
Services for older people and those with respiratory conditions
Age Related Rehabilitation
This department provides inpatient rehabilitation services to older people who are referred to Peamount from a general hospital following an illness or accident. There are 25 beds in this unit.
- Stroke
- Falls
- Orthopaedic conditions
- Reduced mobility
Respiratory Department
The Respiratory Department helps people with chronic lung conditions e.g. COPD and sleep disorders. Patients are generally transferred to this unit following from a general hospital once their condition has stabilised. This unit has 25 beds.
- Radiology
- Pulmonary Function testing
- Pathology
- Sleep Clinic
Peamount provides a range of rehabilitation services for these patients as appropriate such as:
- Physiotherapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Speech & Language Therapy
- Nutrition & Dietetics
- Social Work
- Health Education
Residential Services
For people with a neurological disability, people with an intellectual disability and older people
Intellectual Disability Services
The IDS Department provides residential accommodation for persons with an intellectual disability on the Peamount Campus and in the community. Most of these clients have been residents in Peamount for many years and many need now support in areas such as:
- Care of the Older Person
- Care for people with Alzheimer’s
- Services for people with challenging behaviour
Neurological Disability Department
This Department provides continuing care and post acute rehabilitation for people under 65 with an acquired brain injury or progressive neurological illnesses such as MS, Motor Neuron, Korsakoff’s Syndrome and Parkinsons. This unit has 22 beds.
Age Related Residential Services
This Department provides continuing residential care to 46 residents over 65 who can no longer live safely at home. Typical conditions that resident’s are affected by include Alzheimer’s, Orthopaedic, Respiratory, Stroke & Reduced Mobility

Which include day care for older people, an education centre and the provision of a range of diagnostic tests to the community

This department provides the following to the community:
- Respiratory Clinic
- Sleep Clinic
- Asthma Allergy Service
- Diagnostic Tests
- Radiology
- Smoking Cessation Service
Other Community Services
This department provides the following to the community:
- Education Centre available to the community
- Day Care Centre for older people in the community
- Provision of meals for the Meals on Wheels Service in the region
- Health Promotion & Education
