Peamount Healthcare is an independent voluntary organisation that provides a range of high quality health and social care services. Specialist Rehabilitation services continue to develop in line with Peamount’s Strategic Plan 2020-2023.
We are delighted that the Peamount stories that were created last year to highlight the extraordinary ways in which people have been able to keep person-centredness alive during COVID times have now been published by the HSE.
Peamount Healthcare was founded in 1912 as a Tuberculosis (TB) Sanatorium by the Women’s National Health Association. With the decline in the incidence of TB in later years, more accommodation became available for other services. In 1963, at the request of the Department of Health, a residential unit for people with an intellectual disability was opened. Over time as the needs of the community changed, Peamount developed a wider range of healthcare services.
